STRESS IS DEADLY

According to the American Psychological Association, chronic stress is linked to the six leading causes of death including heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Nearly a quarter of U.S. adults said they were under extreme stress in 2015, up from 18 percent the year. Workplace stress costs businesses $190 billion in healthcare costs. Workplace stress contributes to at least 120,000 deaths per year.

After the election, health officials have reported a significant rise in collective distress symptoms including uncertainty, fear, anxiety, grief, and depression which has been dubbed Post-Election Stress Disorder.

You are not alone in feeling this way. And yet, ironically, stress and isolation often walk along together. As we feel stressed, we lash out with strong emotions and drive people away. As we feel stressed, we isolate and keep our true feelings inside. Sadly, stress and isolation, together, are tied to a shorter life span.

THERE ARE SOLUTIONS

Studies show that there are several ways to manage chronic stress.

To reduce stress, you can meditate, move more, talk to people, shift your eating habits, sleep better, unplug, nurture a spiritual practice, practice gratitude, and build your positivity muscles.

These are all powerful antidotes to chronic stress. A comprehensive strategy is the best solution.
